The way, accomodation, resupply, daily stages, GPS track of the hike from the Amalfi Coast to Cape Santa Maria di Leuca at the tip of the heel of the Italian boot.
From the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Ionian Sea: third part of my long distance hike, the Six Seas Trail, starting from the Atlantic in the Basque Country, hiking through the north of the Iberian Cordillera then East-West through Sardinia and before continuing in the Balkans from the port of Durrës in Albania to Bulgaria at Cape Emine on the shores of the Black Sea.

The way :

Starting from Punta Campanella, on the Tyrrhenian Sea, facing the island of Capri. I’ll walk along the Amalfi Coast before continuing through the mountains of inland Campania to Mount Vulture, then heading southeast to finish on the Salento Peninsula (the heel of Italy). My way follows sections of the Sentiero Italia, Via Appia, Via Francigena, and the Cammino Materano. This section will end at Cape Santa Maria di Leuca, between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas.
This walk complements my other itineraries in Italy, and in particular the 2016 walk in South of Italy, when I hiked up the peninsula from Calabria to France.

See the website of the Via Francigena for all information about this route; you can download GPS tracks and accommodation lists; there is also an Android and Apple app with maps of the route.

Sentiero Italia : this path exists in some places, but no longer exists in others, or not yet. Do your research beforehand to avoid getting lost on overgrown paths. The informations on the website of the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) for the Sentiero Italia are not always up to date.

Va’Sentiero is a project by a group of young Italians who have hiked the entire Sentiero Italia. Their website, Va’Sentiero, is very interesting, offering GPS tracks, practical and cultural information, and accommodation options for each stage.

Paolo Rumiz describes his walk to retrace the ancient route in his book “Appia.” On the publisher’s website, Feltrinelli, you can find a map and information on each of his stages.

GPS track – Maps :

To prepare my way, I consult the track-sharing website Wikiloc. The website Waymarked Trails lists the main official trails such as the Sentiero Italia, the major European long-distance paths E4, E6…
To draw a track, the website Brouter.de (see video) allows to draw following the existing ways and trails.
When I’m on my way, I’m using the Iphigénie application. With it, you can have offline OpenTopoMap. Those maps are good with paths, huts, springs… It’s also possible to send beacons of your position (if there is network); this can be reassuring on certain occasions.
The application Mapy .cz is great also with marked trails, springs, points of interest, shelters, huts… It is possible to download the maps to have access offline.
