TransIberian Trail

The way, useful information, daily stages, GPS tracks of the TransIberian Trail, the hike through the Iberian Peninsula east to west. 2100km (a third of which is along the coast), from Menorca to Lisbon with the hike through the 4 Balearic islands, the Iberian and Central Cordilleras and the end in the center of Portugal via the Serra da Estrela and the Atlantic coast to the mouth of the Tagus.

Other long distance hikes in the Iberian Peninsula :

  • In 2012, from Aachen to Compostela then Porto via the Camino Frances and the Camino Portuguese.
  • In 2014, the hike through Spain from Tarifa to Punta Estaca de Bares (northernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula) and to the French border, mainly following caminos.
  • In 2023, the Vuelta-Volta, complete tour of the Iberian Peninsula.
  • See also the hikes through Pyrenees.

TransIberian Trail : the way

The TransIberian Trail crosses the Iberian Peninsula from east to west, more or less following the crest line of the central cordilleras. It goes through 14 natural parks or protected areas and passes by 8 properties (historical and natural) listed as UNESCO world heritage sites.
I divided this long distance hike in 4 parts. For all detailed information: GPS tracks, internet links, useful information, supplies, accommodation, water, stages…see the links below

My equipment

Since 2017 and the Appalachian Trail, I’m used to almost the same equipment. To see the explanation of my main choices, see the Italy 2021 introduction page. I had to change some equipment and bought some a bit heavier than the old ones. Compared to my Vuelta-Volta 2023, I take a solar panel for fairly long autonomous parts in the Iberian and Central Cordilleras. My base weight excluding water and food is 7.5kg.
